Noam Chomsky and Robert Fisk – War, Geopolitics, and History 1/7

Noam Chomsky, professor, linguistics, MIT Robert Fisk, correspondent, The Independent Journalist Robert Fisk of the UK-based publication, The Independent, recounts his experiences traveling around the world and living in the Middle East, Fisk speaks on history and geopolitics in the Middle East. His focus is on the problems with journalism in the United States, which include an over-reliance on what government authorities say and the common mode of reporting ‘from Baghdad’ but entirely within the confines of a hotel room. Using newspaper articles and speeches from politicians, Fisk illustrates the lack of concern for Iraqis as human beings. Fisk’s talk also looks at the Armenian genocide, which was downplayed in Western media. After the talk, Fisk fields questions ranging from the rumors of civil war in Iraq to the situation in Lebanon. The event was organized by the Armenian National Committee’s Eastern Region in conjunction with the Technology and Culture Forum at MIT and the Harvard Alliance for Justice in the Middle East. Additional sponsors included the MIT Thistle, the MIT Social Justice Cooperative, and the Nation Institute.

  1. Well this is just one of the all too many cases on our books of Americanism. The only way that we can fight this terrible debilitating social disease, is by informing the general public of its consequences, by showing young people that it’s just not worth it. So please give generously to this address: The League for fighting the United States of America, 55 Lincoln House, Basil Street, London, SW3.

  2. Dr. Chomsky, thank you for your superb lecture on the genocide of the Armenian people. I respect your views as well as that of Dr. Fisk’s in your attempts to spread the truths of Turkey’s crime. While U.S. politicians are very tight-fisted in its denial due to their strong alliance with Turkey (despite substantial supporting evidence), are there any reasonable strategies that we Armenians can apply in the United States to push its recognition?

Once again, I thank you on behalf of our people.

  3. why start out and say it is from a leftest thinking. That is stupidity and closed minded from the start. Intellectual my foot!!

  4. Why ain’t there any ‘VIDEOS’ on the top, next to “copym3”, so I can have it play all 7 parts, without my having to click on each video ?

  5. Thank YOU so much dear Friend. Just favorited. Only online for a short time these days. Will be back. Have a great week ahead, Lisa

  6. Here’s what Russia can do: LOOK FUCKING EAST!
Give Japan their islands back, help North Korea get a peace deal.
( at the moment, Russia likes isolation of North Korea, because it gets nuclear technology from them, for cheap!).
Once Russia helps Japan, Korea (North+South) and China. I’m sure Japan and Korea will provide the technology since they too have advanced tech. The West is BROKE, China has the MONEY! Russia has the oil and gas. China+Russia+Japan=Money+Brawn+Brain. WIN-WIN!

  7. @Mehtaphorical don’t mind about american people, they’re good, but what da fk is your goverment doing in middle east! They must be stopped. Somehow.

  8. @AucklandHD Too be clear, this is because it’s a new world nation. Soviet Union peoples were ancient and had histories as independent people, there was more cultural difference. Most of America has never been anything but America. Even a much more regionalized country like Canada, where provinces really are distinct, separate societies, has managed to not break up into pieces, and we are nowhere near so united a people as the Americans, nor is our country as old.

  9. @AucklandHD America might change, but it won’t split apart, it’s identity as a united country is too strong to overcome.

Shipping is far less expensive – about 30 times less expensive per ton than overland transport. Russia has a terrible geographical location – no natural defensive barriers, really poor access to warm water ports, no navigable rivers that interconnect, etc… not to mention it’s cold. lol

  11. Very informative. In someways russia may be in a geographically favorable location. If it can promote the transiberian railway as a means to transports goods between europe and far east as an alternative over shipping through the suez canal. A natural defense barrier of russia has been its vastness and its winters.

  20. @cornwalley Russia is pushing global leaders meeting in Canada to endorse new international regulations on offshore drilling, according to Greenpeace, an international environmental group.

Greenpeace said the Russian delegation to the G-8, which represents the richest industrial countries, was pushing them to back new drilling rules in the G-8 communique.

UNLESS YOU KNOW WHO THE PLAYERS ARE IN GREENPEACE AND HOW THEY MANIPULATE THE WORLD’S MARKET WITH THE NWO PLAYERS

    YOU WILL REMAIN DUMB

  21. @BlessedONE333returnz
Sure; many things I don’t know, and I’m sure you will tell me 😉 about the politics of the game. And now try to read with understanding,ok?What makes you think I dont see Russia as oppresive power and strategic threat to Europe? I do. And be sure my part of Europe experienced Russian presence for long enoungh to understand some things better than you waiting for petrol in the 70’s.
